MIAMI, FL – December 27, 2017 – On December 20, 2017, shareholder Jerry Markowitz was appointed by the Supreme Court of Florida to serve as a member of the 11th Judicial Circuit’s Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee.
Markowitz is one of South Florida’s leading business and bankruptcy reorganization law practitioners; and business and bankruptcy mediators. He is ranked in Chambers USA, a 2017 Best Lawyer in America and named to the 2016 Top 100 Florida Super Lawyers list and to the Top 100 Miami Super Lawyers by Super Lawyers Magazine. In 2016, Markowitz co-authored Bankruptcy Mediation, a new book from the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and co-authored a chapter on ADR and Bankruptcy in the ADR Deskbook for the Business Lawyer from the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. Active in the community, Markowitz is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), regional co-chair of the ABI Endowment Fund and co-chair of the ABI Mediation Committee. He is a former president of the University of Miami Law Alumni Association, a founding member of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida and a former co-chair of the ABI Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop. He received the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Rising Star award in the Executive Star category in 2016 and Lifestyle Media Group’s Leaders in Law Award in the Bankruptcy Law category in 2015. Further, he received the Thomas Davison, III Memorial Service Award from the University of Miami Law Alumni Association, for outstanding service to the law school in 2013.
